Learner (Teachers)

“Docendo discimus” By teaching we learn.

No bells.

No grades.

No uniforms.

This is authentic education. You the learner will be exercising your will in scheduling your time, prioritizing your academic, spiritual, and health goals, and developing the style with which you present yourself and your ideas. As you shine the unique and unrepeatable light God has given you, you will also be illuminated by the light of those around you.

“What, O mortal, does God require? To act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8

The learners of Narthex collaborate in solving math problems, designing science labs, and engaging in Socratic dialogue over rich literature through our afternoon “Micah seminars.” They bake bread and prepare meals for one another, they cheer for each other, they pray with and for one another. This is self-education rooted in Christian community.

Why are we called “Narthex”?

The word "narthex" refers to an ancient atrium — a place with doors open both to the world and to the sanctuary.

At Narthex Community of Learners, we create an environment where students experience both real engagement with the wider world and deep formation through prayer, learning, and community. Our community is a space between these two doors.

What does it mean to be a learner teacher?

We envision graduates who are curious, capable, and committed — young men and women who love God wholeheartedly and serve their neighbors faithfully.

Students at Narthex don’t just learn by listening and reading; they also learn by teaching. Dialogue with other learners and opportunities to teach your fellow students help you not only learn but master your areas of study.
